Release Date:  November 21, 2012

Thoughts: After viewing an extended scene from The Life of Pi shown in 3D before Prometheus, I wasn’t sure how I felt about Ang Lee’s adaptation of Yann Martel’s novel.  How can a film that primarily takes place on a lifeboat with a young boy and Bengal tiger sustain itself for any length of time?  The preview I saw was a visually stunning four minutes but it felt more like a screen test for effects rather than part of a larger movie.

With the arrival of the first full trailer I’m changing my tune.  I shouldn’t have ever doubted that Lee would make use of the latest technology or would skimp on grand visuals that make the eyes and mouth water.  I’m waiting on reading the book until closer to the release date but the buzz on this film is big – here’s hoping that the sumptuous displays of cinematography and creativity all blend well with the story.
