Golden Globe Nominations 2020

Happy Golden Globe nomination day to you!

Started in 1944 and given by some 93 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to celebrate excellence in film and television, The Golden Globe Awards is always a fun award show to look forward to.  Their nominations tend toward the light (and with ample booze served during the evening the stars are fairly “loose” as the night goes on) and though they’ve gotten in better alignment with their more serious parallel award shows, there are always a few head scratching nominations they manage to pull out.

The nominations for the 2020 Golden Globes to recognize the achievements for the movies released in 2019 were announced this morning and the full of list of nominees can be found here.  Many of the categories went as expected, though as always it was the musical/comedy nominations that managed to slip in several “Ok, that was interesting” selections.  My personal WTH nominee has got to be Cate Blanchett for Where’d You Go, Bernadette.  She was just fine in an otherwise pallid movie that came and went with barely a ripple this summer.  What the nominations showed more than anything is that the race is going to come down to a war between The Irishman, Marriage Story, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood to claim the top prize…but don’t count out Parasite and the yet to be released 1917 from chipping strongholds of those early frontrunners.
