Thoughts: Oh Paul Thomas Anderson…I just don’t know about this one. There’s no denying that the director of Boogie Nights, Magnolia, and There Will Be Blood is a qualified filmmaker but I find the trailers for his films hard to connect to. I get the feeling he’s one of those directors that would prefer his work is released without any advertistement, trailers, or hype…he just wants to make the art and let it fly. That can create problems because his fans will come but releasing trailers like this one for The Master may be a hard sell to the casual movie-goer that will have a lot of other film options to choose from. Phoenix, Hoffman, and Adams are all solid actors, though the latter two feel a bit overexposed in my eyes. Still…after a five year hiatus critics and followers alike are anxiously awaiting Anderson’s latest (surely epic) film.
