Thoughts: A first glance over the plot synopsis of Ted gives the impression that this is either going to be a cutesy laugh-fest or a subversive comedy. However after a view of the trailer one might be inclined to think its both. Seth McFarlane writes, directs and voices the talking bear known as Ted who lies at the heart of the film. This could easily veer off the rails and rely on toilet humor or gags based around a talking stuffed animal but I’m hoping that it’s as intelligent as the preview would lead us to believe. A tired plot device is effectively killed in its tracks by showing us that the talking bear is no big deal to the society Ted and his owner live in. Mark Wahlberg is getting better about laughing at himself so he seems to be an inspired choice as Ted’s companion. Played with the right amount of comedic balance this could turn out to be an unexpected sleeper of the summer.
