Synopsis: A novelist struggling with writer’s block finds romance in a most unusual way: by creating a female character he thinks will love him, then willing her into existence.
Release Date: July 25, 2012
Thoughts: Watch this trailer first.
You done?
OK.
Now tell me if this doesn’t look eerily similar to movies like Stranger Than Fiction or Adaptation – movies where the characters in the mind of one character suddenly become real and interactive. It doesn’t help that the dreary Paul Dano is leading the cast that also includes Annette Bening, Antonio Banderas, and the endlessly annoying Steven Coogan. Directed by the team that brought you Little Miss Sunshine, I’m certain that the buzz will build for this one as the release approaches but I can’t escape the been-there-done-that feeling the trailer gives off. Presumably there’s something here that helps to separate it from similar movies that have come before it.
