Thoughts: Woody Allen is becoming quite a globe trotter. In the last decade Allen has gone from being the consummate New York filmmaker to a having a passport full of stamps from Europe’s best locales. After spending a Midnight in Paris Allen is now in Rome and back in front of the camera. As in all his films, he’s assembled a familiar cast of old and new Allen faces. I’m sure Penelope Cruz leapt at the chance to work with the director that helped her win an Oscar and she looks likely to steal an equal amount of scenes in this one. Unfortunately on the other hand we have Ellen Page and Jesse Eisenberg, two of the more overrated young stars in recent memory. That they play would-be-secret-lovers is made weirder by the fact that they look like they could be related. Hopefully Alec Baldwin, Judy Davis, and Allen can show the youngsters a thing or two.
