Thoughts: With all the hoopla concerning Tom Cruise in the last week the debut of the teaser trailer for his new film went largely unnoticed.  Or maybe it was because it’s not a great advertisement to get the butts into the seats.  I’m sure this will wind up being a perfectly fine action film but I’m not so sure that audiences will get behind this version of Cruise.  Cruise does best with conflicted heroes like Ethan Hunt in the Mission Impossible series and even Stacee Jax in Rock of Ages…but I’m not sure that this aggressive Cruise will appeal in quite the same way.  Based on a series of crime novels, Jack Reacher could be the start of a new franchise for Cruise or it could be a one-shot deal if the film doesn’t deliver.
