Thoughts: The 2009 release of GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra made a nice chunk of change for Paramount while simultaneously sucking the brain cells out of its audiences. With no shortage of adrenaline in its action sequences the film was an enjoyable mess of clichés that went down easy and was quickly forgotten. Three years later a sequel is arriving along with a new hero to share the stage with original star Channing Tatum. The question I have is this: what movies does The Rock say “no” to? He seems to be in every action franchise lately…from The Mummy to the Fast and the Furious sequels to Journey to the Center of the Earth it seems that there is no stunt film he won’t take. The money doesn’t hurt but since he makes no effort to distinguish one performance from the other…it ends up feeling like the same character has found its way into several different films. With a new director known for less cartoony work than the man that helmed the first one, this Joe pic will hopefully right some wrongs from the first film while still kicking the Cobra’s butt.
