Thoughts: Go ahead and make those Dreamgirls comparisons…but keep in mind that this is a remake of the 1976 film of the same name…way before the stage version of Dreamgirls got up and running.  I saw the original so long ago I don’t really remember it but I do remember it having a pretty hard edge.  No doubt this one will be a bit lighter in tone…if only to make up for the fact that it co-stars the late (great) Whitney Houston.  I’ll be very interested to see what her contributions are like here.  While admittedly not the best actress, Houston fared far better than most crossover singers in her theatrical outings.  This doesn’t look like anything special to me…I think I’m more interested in it just because it’s Houston’s last time on the big screen.
