Synopsis: A look at the lives of Pete and Debbie a few years after the events of Knocked Up.
Release Date: December 21, 2012
Thoughts: In this “sort of sequel” to 2007’s Knocked Up, director Judd Apatow shifts the focus to Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann’s characters from that movie and continues their story of ups and downs. Apatow’s directing history has had its own share of ups and downs in my book with nearly all of them clocking in a good 20 minutes longer than they should. His last directing gig was 2009’s Funny People (which wasn’t too funny) but he’s really hit gold as producer of some hot films/television shows. As interesting as Rudd and Mann’s characters were, do they need a whole movie around them? The trailer seems to indicate that the laughs will be there – but how much of this was fueled by creativity and how much of it was in the spirit of family togetherness (Mann is Apatow’s wife and their two children play her kids here too). That being observed, as long as he can show he’s learned to edit down his movies we may have a nicely adult comedy for the holidays.
