The Silver Bullet ~ “The Twilight Sage: Breaking Dawn – Part 2” – Trailer #2

by Joe Silver Bullet - Trailer Park • Tags: Bella, Bill, Breaking, Condon, Cullen, Dawn, Edward, Kristen, logo, Part 2, Pattinson, Renesmee, Robert, Stewart, Studio, Summit, Swan, Teaser, Trailer, Twilight, Volturi

Synopsis:  After the birth of Renesmee, the Cullens gather other vampire clans in order to protect the child from a false allegation that puts the family in front of the Volturi.

Release Date:  November 16, 2012

Thoughts:

With some unbelievable rumors surfacing last week that Summit Entertainment was already thinking of ‘rebooting’ the Twilight series, I’ve received this trailer with a bit of wariness.  Having slogged through all four books I know how it all ends but anyone who also has stumbled through the pages knows that the story probably isn’t quite done.  I still don’t agree that Breaking Dawn needed to be split into two books so here’s hoping that the screenplay for Breaking Dawn – Part 2 was pumped up with a bit more action than the book held in its final few chapters.  Part 1 was a decent flick but only became interesting in the final few moments, I hope that director Bill Condon can wrap it all up nicely.

The Silver Bullet ~ “Cosmopolis” Trailer

by Joe Silver Bullet - Trailer Park • Tags: Baruchel, Binoche, Cosmopolis, Cronenberg, David, Durand, Giamatti, Juliette, logo, Morton, Pattinson, Studio

Synopsis: Riding across Manhattan in a stretch limo in order to get a haircut, a 28-year-old billionaire asset manager’s day devolves into an odyssey with a cast of characters that start to tear his world apart.

Release Date:  TBA 2012

Thoughts: This could be a bad combination.  Bringing together the vacant talent of Robert Pattinson with the too-deep-to-make-sense talent of David Cronenberg could result in a movie that seems to take a lot of risks but ends up in the discount bin.  Cronenberg’s films are always challenging and I’m not sure that’s what Pattinson needs to establish himself as NOT a vampire.  In the last decade Cronenberg has skewed to more linear and mainstream fare so the look and tone of Cosmopolis sees the director returning to the avant garde stylings of his 80’s and 90’s work.  Colin Farrell was originally cast but dropped out to make Total Recall…Farrell is an actor who I could see being well matched to this director.   I guess we’ll have to wait and see if Pattinson can make that connection with the material that will show his strengths are not limited to faraway gazes and dewy romance.

The Silver Bullet ~ “Bel Ami” Trailer

by Joe Silver Bullet - Trailer Park • Tags: Ami, Bel, Colm, logo, Magnolia, Meaney, Pattinson, Ricci, Scott, thomas, Thurman, Trailer

Synopsis: A chronicle of a young man’s rise to power in Paris via his manipulation of the city’s most influential and wealthy women.

Release Date: itunes – May 4, 2012 // in theaters – June 8, 2012

Thoughts:  Robert Pattinson so desperately wants to break out of the Twilight shadow and I’m wondering if he might not be in a tad over his head here.  The films he has made outside of the vampire saga have all been dramatic and heavy pieces and it looks to be no different here.  What I think would help Pattinson out better is for him to look for a romantic comedy to, um, sink his teeth into.  While the film itself looks polished and posh, he is surrounded by actors who will make a meal out of him in the scenery chewing departments.  Uma Thurman started off in period drama ala Dangerous Liaisons and it’s nice to see her back on screen playing though her voice seems to be going the Annette Bening husky route.  Kristen Scott Thomas (so good in the recent Salmon Fishing in the Yemen) returns to drama with what looks to be a strong dramatic turn.  Pairing Pattinson with Christina Ricci is a gamble…Ricci is a strong actress with the right co-star but she can quickly turn whiny at the drop of a hat.  I don’t know about you but I’m a little starved for a good period drama with a wicked edge so Bel Ami on the whole hold some interest for me.  Whether Pattinson acquits himself here is yet to be determined but here’s hoping he continues to stretch outside of his comfort zone.

The Silver Bullet ~ “Breaking Dawn, Part 2” Teaser

by Joe Silver Bullet - Trailer Park • Tags: Breaking, Dawn, logo, Pattinson, Stewart, Studio, Summit

Synopsis: After the birth of Renesmee, the Cullens gather other vampire clans in order to protect the child from a false allegation that puts the family in front of the Volturi.

Release Date: November 16, 2012

Thoughts: The Twilight saga will finally be done (probably) after part 2 of Breaking Dawn is released in November.  I’m not quite sure why the final book had to be broken into two parts…oh wait…now I remember…money.  With the chance to squeeze some more cash out of their Twi-hards the producers chose a good place to make the break between movies but having read the book there’s not a whole lot left to cover.  I’m sure they will find a way to extend the dewy-eyed naval gazing of our love triangle to make up for the fact that there is not much material to work with.  Having seen this trailer several times with a packed audience its clear the anticipation is high…which I’m sure will only grow when a longer trailer is released later this summer.
