Synopsis: Blackfish tells the story of Tilikum, a notoriously aggressive orca that killed three people while in captivity. Director Gabriela Cowperthwaite uses shocking footage and emotional interviews to present a convincing case against keeping these wild animals.

Thoughts: Look, I had a Shamu stuffed animal like most children that visited Sea World but it’s become clear thanks to reports over the last decade that animals kept in captivity demonstrate behavior not seen in the wild.  After a rash of accidents/deaths related to Orcas, there’s a new spotlight shone on the consequences we pay for entertainment in these theme parks.  I’ve a feeling this is going to be a hard film to watch but like the Oscar winning documentary The Cove (about the slaughter of dolphins for food) it’s probably one that’s important for everyone considering a trip to take in…especially if you’re considering a trip to Sea World.
